Rahmon discusses regional problems with Afghanistan Parliament Speaker

The emphasis was placed on the importance of intra-Afghan Peace Talks in Doha.

On March 1, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon received Speaker of the lower house of Afghanistan Parliament Mir Rahman Rahmani. The parties discussed key aspects of inter-parliamentary cooperation and highlighted the importance of ensuring peace and stability in the region, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

Particular attention was paid to intra-Afghan Peace Talks in Doha. Rahmon emphasised that the authorities of Tajikistan supported the initiatives put forward by the IRA government in this field. The leader of the Central Asian state also highlighted the need to find effective ways to bring peace to Afghanistan.

The parties underscored the important role of the 9th Ministerial Conference Heart of Asia – Istanbul Process, which would be held in Dushanbe in late March this year. Tajikistan and Afghanistan will chair the Conference. President Rahmon and IRA President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani had discussed the preparatory work during a telephone conversation.

Mir Rahman Rahmani had a meeting with Chairman of the lower house of Tajikistan Parliament Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda. Discussing trade and economic contacts between the two countries, they said bilateral trade turnover exceeded US$ 70 million in 2020.
