Turkmenistan has partially restored train services

Trains will run between Ashgabat and Turkmenabat.

The Railway Agency of Turkmenistan has partially restored local train services this March. These services will be provided in test mode in compliance with sanitation and hygiene regulations, the press office of the Demiryollary OJSC reported.

Trains will run twice a week: on Wednesdays from Ashgabat to Turkmenabat and on Thursdays from Turkmenabat to Ashgabat. Local rail services in other directions are suspended until April 1.

According to the Turkmendemiryollary Agency, train tickets are sold only at the sales offices. Passengers must have a COVID-19 free certificate issued no earlier than 72 hours before travel. The trains will be formed of 10 carriages instead of 18-20, and tickets will be sold for only two seats in a compartment coach.

As was reported, Turkmenistan has restored shuttle bus services between Ashgabat and Dashoguz in test mode this March. Bus services are offered twice a week.

Local rail and bus services were ended on July 16 last year with the aim of preventing the spread of coronavirus.

Turkmenistan has suspended international air flights until March 31 this year.  Air travel restrictions have been in force since March last year.
