Putin said he viewed Tokayev’s proposals on the EAEU’s prospects as positive.
On February 18, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev and President of Russia Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation. The leaders of the two states deliberated on the aspects of cooperation in a bilateral format and within the EAEU, the press office of Akorda reports.
Speaking about the spheres of bilateral interaction, Tokayev positively evaluated the two states’ eagerness to stop the coronavirus pandemic. The Sputnik V vaccine production has been launched in Karaganda, and the states have agreed on the terms and conditions for the supply of the Russian ‘panacea’ to Kazakhstan at the government level.
The leaders of the countries noted that the executive state bodies were working on joint plans closely and fruitfully. It was agreed that that Kokshetau would host the Russia-Kazakhstan Interregional Cooperation Forum in 2021. The event would take place in the format depending on the epidemic situation.
The issues under discussion included the further development of the EAEU and the enhancement of its potential and strategic role. Putin supported Tokayev's proposals on the EAEU’s integration policy. The parties expressed readiness to decide jointly on matters within the Eurasian Economic Union.
The emphasis was put on the energy sector as playing a key role. Akorda and Kremlin supported the proposal to work together in face of contemporary trends and challenges in international markets.
