Uzbekistan to host the 1st Meeting of the Council of Agriculture Ministers

The Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan and the Secretary General of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States discussed the prospects for bilateral cooperation.

On February 14, Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Jamshid Khodjayev and Secretary General of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States (CCTS) Baghdad Amreyev held talks in Tashkent. The parties discussed the preparatory work for the agricultural business forum, which representatives of major agricultural companies were to attend. Uzbekistan intended to enhance South–South cooperation, the press office of the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan reports.

The officials deliberated on key aspects of bilateral agricultural cooperation. They focused on holding the 1st Meeting of the Council of Agriculture Ministers, aimed at facilitating the exchange of experience and information and communication technologies among the CCTS Member States, and the business forum.

The Secretary General highlighted the need to gather the agriculture ministers and discuss the areas of development. The implementation of the findings of the Meeting will ensure the success of all members of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States, who complement and support one another.

- The CCTS will provide an effective platform for experts, scientists and representatives of agricultural research centres of the CCTS Member States, - Jamshid Khodjaev said. - Every member of the Council has individual achievements in certain information technology sectors, and joint efforts will contribute to the progress of this industry.

The Minister focused on merging the CCTS’s agricultural policy with the FAO’s South-South Regional Cooperation Programme, which will give developing countries a broad platform for joint activities based on the principle of solidarity.
