Turkmenistan speeds up construction of Ahal-Balkan power line

The power line that will connect Ahal, Balkan and Dashoguz velayats is being built under the power grid project.

Turkmenistan continues implementing the power grid project that aims to connect the power systems of Ahal, Balkan and Dashoguz velayats. The first project stage – construction of the Ahal-Balkan power line is underway, the Turkmenistan: the Golden Age e-newspaper reported on February 5.

Every day, subcontractors lay up to 40 reinforced concrete supports and install up to 15 metal support structures along the route. Construction work on the Serdar-220 substation has been launched.

The length of the Ahal-Balkan power line is over 420 kilometres. It will be put into operation in August this year. During this time, more than 5,500 foundation slabs and 1,500 supports will be installed.

The Turkmenenergo State Power Corporation obtained a soft loan from the Asian Development Bank to implement the project. The second project stage provides for construction of the Balkan-Dashoguz power line.

The project aims to increase electricity generation and improve power supply, in particular to residential buildings. Moreover, the power grid will allow for electricity exchanges among the power systems of the velayats and Ashgabat.
