Minister of Health and Social Protection of Tajikistan endorses vaccine action plan

Jamoliddin Abdullozoda said that health care workers and senior citizens would be the first to receive the vaccine.

Minister of Health and Social Protection of Tajikistan Jamoliddin Abdullozoda said that the epidemiological situation in the Republic was quite positive, and no new cases had been registered recently. He said that the mass vaccination campaign would begin in the second half of 2021, the press office of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection reported on January 3.

The Minister said that Tajikistan had joined the COVAX Facility, through which distribution of vaccines would start in mid-2021.

Abdullozoda emphasised that health care workers, senior citizens (over 50) and people with chronic conditions would be the first to receive the vaccine.

He said that the ad-hoc group, consisting of health care experts, had selected 1.8 million vaccine candidates (about 20% of the population).

The Minister expressed hope that the COVID-19 situation would improve soon, and the end of the pandemic would be seen in the summer of 2021.

As was reported, as of today, 13,300 cases of coronavirus infection were recorded in the country. About 97.6% of all COVID-19 patients got well.
