Head of the High Council for National Reconciliation of Afghanistan arrives in Dushanbe

Abdullah Abdullah held meetings with the Chairman of the lower house of Parliament, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister.

On December 21, a high-ranking delegation of Afghanistan led by Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah arrived in the capital of Tajikistan on an official visit. The Afghanistan official held meetings with a number of civil servants of Tajikistan during his working trip, he wrote on his Facebook page.

The Afghanistan official will spend 2 days in Tajikistan. The scheduled meetings will focus on discussing the development of a joint diplomatic project aimed at ensuring peace in the region.

Abdullah held a meeting with Chairman of the lower house of Tajik Parliament Mahmadtoir Zokirzoda. The parties discussed a number of issues related to the geopolitical location of Tajikistan and Afghanistan. Particular attention was paid to the promotion of inter-parliamentary contacts, as well as the exchange of legislative experiences.

The parties noted that the two countries were located in the centre of the Asian continent and connected the vast regions of the world. The meeting agenda included discussions of the effectiveness of the Tajikistan-Afghanistan Parliamentary Friendship Group.

Abdullah also expressed special gratitude to President Emomali Rahmon for urging the international organisations to intensify efforts to rebuild war-ravaged Afghanistan.

The Afghanistan official had a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin. The parties discussed the progress in the intra-Afghan peace talks  in Doha. The plans aimed at increasing joint efforts to combat terrorism, extremism and illicit trafficking in psychotropic substances were identified. Muhriddin said that Afghanistan played a key role in ensuring security across Central Asia. The officials touched upon the prospects of mutual relations on such international platforms as the UN, SCO and OIC.

In the evening, Abdullah held talks with Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda. The parties discussed the situation in Afghanistan and declared their mutual readiness to widen cooperation in resolving conflicts on the territory of the IRA.
