Kazakhstan initiates almost total reforms

Tokayev started the creation of new government agencies to control and implement reforms.

On September 15, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with the Chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms Kairat Kelimbetov. It is a newly created department. Its head informed the president about organizational issues and perspective action plans for the current year. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of Akorda.

The head of the republic gave Kelimbetov instructions to thoroughly analyze the current situation in society, study and work on issues and proposals important for the citizens.

It must be added that the new agency is considered to become a bridge between the cardinal reforms announced by the president and the people of the country. The changes will affect the economic, administrative, industrial, financial, social, and many other important spheres of the state.

In general, the new agency will act as a headquarters, which will have to develop approaches to all-sector reforms, taking into account modern challenges and world experience. At the same time, the department will exercise strict control over their implementation.

To realize the most important proposals in terms of reforms initiated by the agency or other bodies it will be necessary to contact the Supreme Presidential Council for Reforms. The council is also a new government platform for supporting reforms. It was created on September 14.

The head of the state made the ex-head of the EBRD, Sir Suma Chakrabarti, a member of the team of the relevant council. Moreover, the ex-banker has been appointed as a freelance adviser to the President of Kazakhstan for economic development.
