Turkmenistan to join Kyoto Convention

It is an international convention on the simplification and harmonization of customs procedures.

On September 11, at a government meeting Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, head of MFA of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov briefed President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov on the implementation of transport diplomacy in the state. It was reported by Turkmenistan — Golden Age.

Meredov noted that it is planned to further develop cooperation in the field of transport diplomacy.

— Due to the current situation in the world caused by the coronavirus pandemic, it is necessary to create an international legal instrument that will ensure the stable work of the international transport infrastructure, — said the official.

In this regard, Turkmenistan has prepared a draft special UN General Assembly Resolution, which is planned to be considered at its next session. According to Meredov, the agenda of the International Conference of Ministers of Landlocked Developing Countries will include issues on cooperation in the transport sector. The event is planned to be held in Turkmenistan jointly with the UN in 2021.

On September 29 this year, it is planned to hold a high-level regional dialogue dedicated to transport issues together with the Economic Commission for Europe (ECE) and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

It must be added that on August 22, 2020, resolutions on the ratification of 6 international documents on transport issues were adopted at a regular meeting of the Turkmen parliament. In this regard, Meredov proposed to join the International Convention on the Simplification and Harmonization of Customs Procedures (Kyoto Convention), which will contribute to building up mutually beneficial cooperation.
