On January 27, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the draft state programme of the Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy at the meeting. The new programme envisages increasing the share of green energy to 26% by the end of the year, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.
Proposals and suggestions by the public on the programme were taken into consideration: over 11 million citizens reviewed the document, and over 100 initiatives were incorporated in the final version. The UN agencies and other international organisations are ready to take an active part in implementing the programme.
Over the past 3 years, Uzbekistan has made significant progress in promoting green energy: 16 large solar and wind power plants with a total capacity of 3.5 GW have been commissioned, and 35 small hydropower plants have been built. Solar powered houses exceed 60,000, and tree planting campaigns are held annually under the Yashil Makon Programme.
In the coming years, power plants with a total capacity of over 3.5 GW and energy storage facilities with a total capacity of 1.8 GW will be put into operation. The President instructed that the projects of 1GW power plants be built and 2 trillion soums in loans be allocated to encourage the installation of solar panels at enterprises and on houses.
