Road Fund in Tajikistan to start working soon

The authorities of the Republic are set to achieve stability in bridge and road construction and maintenance in this way.

President Emomali Rahmon signed the decree on the establishment of the Road Fund in Tajikistan. The President tasked the Ministry of Transport to develop and submit the proposals on organisational, legal and financial issues of the Road Fund within 3 months, the press office of the Ministry of Transport reported.

The Fund will ensure stable funding of bridge and road construction and maintenance. As of October 2024, the Ministry of Transport has 5.5 million kilometres of national and international roads on its balance sheet. The Ministry continues restructuring Tajikistan’s road transport sector.

According to the Ministry of Transport, road funds operate in many developed countries and existed in the CIS Member States until the early 1990s. In recent years, these funds have begun to be restored. Establishing the Road Fund in Tajikistan will be the next step to speed up the reform of the road transport sector, launched 4 years ago.
