In 2024, a record 12,000 km of roads were built, renovated and repaired in Kazakhstan. The statistical data was released by the press office of the Ministry of Transport.
«We must leave high-quality highways and railways, effectively operating air hubs, rail terminals and seaports to the next generations of our citizens,» President of the Republic Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said.
Over 25,000 workers and 10,000 equipment units worked on the construction sites. 7,000 km of roads, including the Karaganda-Alma-Ata, Taldykorgan-Ust-Kamenogorsk, Aktobe-Kandyagash and Atyrau-Astrakhan sections, were built. This allowed enhancing transport safety, reducing travel time and improving transport links between the regions.
The local authorities built 3,000 km of roads; the biggest amount of construction work was completed in Kostanay Region (655 km) and North Kazakhstan Region (611 km). In 2024, 89% of roads comply with standards against 68% in 2019.
The construction of 3 major facilities — a bridge across the Bukhtarma water storage reservoir, a tunnel at the Shakpakbaba pass and an overpass in Shamalgan was completed.
1,400 km of railways were built; 143 railway cars were purchased. Construction work on 1,100 km of roads is underway, which will untap the transit potential of the country.
