The Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan announced a possible electricity tariff increase on February 1, 2025. The draft order is posted on the Open NPA portal.
«Preliminary estimates show that the impact of tariff adjustments on the electricity price for the Single Purchaser will be about 2 tenge per kWh,» the Ministry, headed by Almasadam Satkaliyev, reports.
This initiative is necessitated by the requests from 36 energy companies to adjust the maximum tariffs. The main reason for tariff adjustments is the increased costs, including labour costs. The average salary in the industry increased by 18% to reach 425,000 tenge in 2024, and it is expected to increase to 490,000 tenge in 2025.
Kazakhstan’s energy industry is facing a labour shortage, and the energy companies raise salaries to attract qualified specialists.
Moreover, the expenses on fuel, spare parts, transportation and equipment maintenance increased, which is associated with the rise in the metal price. The Ministry of Energy emphasises that the energy companies’ requests are under review to balance the interests of consumers and the energy industry.
