President of Kyrgyzstan reports on development of Kyrgyzstan’s energy sector for 3 years

The President emphasised that until recently no hydropower plants have been built in the Republic in 30 years.

President Sadyr Japarov reported on the development of the energy sector at the meeting marking the 90th anniversary of the Ministry of Energy. According to him, the country has started large-scale modernisation of the energy sector after 30 years of the stagnant construction of energy facilities, Tazabek reports.

Following the adoption on the Decree on the energy crisis in the Republic in 2021, 7 hydropower plants, including the power plants on the Papan and Orto-Tokoy water storage reservoirs, have been built.

Existing facilities, including the Bishkek thermal power plant, have been modernised, and smart energy monitoring systems have been installed.

The state energy companies have paid off long-term debts and improved their financial stability. Promoting a green economy has become a priority. The Government plans to complete construction of the Kambar-Ata-2 hydropower plant and take further measures to enhance energy independence.
