Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev proposes transforming Alem.AI into International AI Centre

The President noted that Kazakhstan has a significant information technology capacity.

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev visited the Astana Hub, where the concept of the Alem.AI Artificial Intelligence Centre, which will be based at Nur Alem, was presented, the Akorda Telegram channel reported.

The President reviewed the domestic AI developments, including digital twins of mineral deposits, drone controllers and a robot dog.

Tokayev learned about the use of AI in public services and discussed the projects of the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) at Nazarbayev University, including the first Kazakh language model KazLLM and Soyle App. The President emphasised the need to create a knowledge and innovation economy, noting that Kazakhstan should become the biggest digital hub in Eurasia.

«We are to fulfil ambitious tasks of turning Kazakhstan into the biggest digital hub in Eurasia. A fresh look at digital development needs to be taken,» Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said. 

He proposed giving an international status to the National AI Centre international to attract talents and set up research laboratories.
