On December 9, Tajikistan and South Korea signed an important protocol aimed at promoting solar energy. The document provides for the construction of solar power plants and the installation of energy storage systems in Sughd Region and Badakhshan Mountainous Autonomous Region to improve access to electricity in remote areas, the press office of the Ministry of Energy reported.
In accordance with the document, the solar power plants with the total capacity of 6 MW and the total storage capacity of 1 MWh will be built. A 3 MW solar power plant with a storage capacity of 0.5 MWh will be built in each of the two regions.
This cooperation is part of expanding energy partnerships between the two countries. In 2023, KOICA allocated $14 million in grant to implement a power supply project, and the two countries agreed upon new areas of cooperation in the energy sector at the Business Dialogue in Dushanbe.
