The Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan announced the completion of the formation of the new Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis. Chairman of the Central Election Commission Zayniddin Nizamkhojaev noted the unprecedented renewal of the Parliament and local gengash; new members account for 60% of the total number of parliamentarians, the press office of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan reported.
This year, it is the first time that parliamentary elections were held under the mixed electoral system.
Half of parliamentarians (75 people) were elected in single-member constituencies, and the other half — by party lists in an electoral district. The composition of the Parliament was approved at the parliamentary session on October 31.
The Parliament of the new convocation has a record number of women, making up 38% of the total number of parliamentarians. An analysis of the age composition shows that parliamentarians aged 45-60 years predominate (46.6%), followed by 30-45-year-old members (38.6%) and parliamentarians over the age of 60 — 13,3%. An important achievement is that 3 parliamentarians with disabilities were elected to the Chamber, which was for the first time in the history of the country. A high educational level of the deputy corps is also noted — 35% of parliamentarians have an academic degree.
