12-year education system comes into effect in Kyrgyzstan

The concept of transition, developed by the Ministry of Education and Science, envisages 3 stages.

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan decided to transition to a 12-year education system. The reform is aimed at modernising the national education system, the press office of the Ministry of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan reported.

The new concept, developed in close collaboration with a wide range of specialists and public activists, conforms to international education standards and best practices of other countries.

The document is aimed at qualitatively improving the educational process and increasing the competitiveness of school-leavers in the modern labour market.

It is emphasised that the transition to the new education system will not affect the age of school leavers. The main change is that children will begin their education at the age of 6, while the zero grade will be transformed into the first grade. This innovation is to create a more flexible and innovative education system that meets modern requirements.
