Uzbekistan and Japan agreed to establish a joint international institution of higher education. The new university will use the curricula that meet Japanese standards. The agreement was signed during a meeting between Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation of Uzbekistan Kongratbay Sharipov and President of the University of Tsukuba Nagata Kyosuke, the press office of the Ministry reported.
The parties agreed to set up an ad-hoc working group that will conduct a feasibility study for the project. It will allow elaborating on all aspects of the establishment of a new educational institution.
Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic Laziz Kudratov held talks with the Japanese partners. They discussed the prospects for developing joint curricula and applying advanced educational technologies. Particular attention was given to the phased establishment of the future university.
The establishment of a new international university is part of the comprehensive higher education reform, launched by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. The modernisation programme envisages the consolidation of 116 existing universities in the country, the revision of their status and the optimisation of bachelor’s degree programmes with a 40% reduction in their number.
