Genealogical museums to open in Kyrgyzstan

According to the authorities of the Republic, this initiative was adopted to preserve national traditions and customs and promote Kyrgyz culture.

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov approved amendments to the Law On Museums and the Museum Fund of the Kyrgyz Republic, introducing a new category of museum institutions into the national legal framework. Now the Kyrgyz legislation provides for the concept of genealogical museums, Kabar reports.

The Zhogorku Kenesh approved this legislative initiative on September 25, and parliamentarians hope it will expand opportunities to preserve the national heritage.

Genealogical museums will receive the official status of specialised historical institutions. Their main functions are comprehensive work with materials on family ties, documentation of the history of families and research in the origins of individuals. An important component of their activities is to create genealogical trees and identify family relationships between members of different families.
