President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed with the draft Tashkent master plan for 2045. Currently, the capital city occupies an area of 43,822 hectares, and the population exceeds 3 million. These figures are expected to continue to grow, which necessitates developing the master plan, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the concepts of the master plan in 2022. In accordance with the recommendations and instructions of the President, the ToshkentboshplanLITI enterprise finalised the master plan jointly with the companies from Singapore, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Germany, China and the Netherlands.
The master plan envisages dividing Tashkent into 3 key zones. Cultural heritage and historical sites in the conservation zone will be under protection, and green spaces will be preserved. Master plans provide for additional construction in the reconstruction zone, and major repairs and replacement of obsolete houses and old buildings with new ones in the renovation zone.
The average annual air temperature in Tashkent has been rising over the past 10 years. Air pollution levels exceed permissible limits on some days, which is aggravated by the increasing number of cars. Therefore, the master plan pays special attention to environmental issues.
In particular, the area of green spaces in the city and suburbs will be expanded threefold to reach 25,000 hectares. This will ensure the city has 3-6 square metre of green spaces per person. In accordance with urban planning standards, green spaces should be located within 15 minutes of walking distance from educational, medical and commercial facilities. In this regard, it is planned to expand the public transport network, build new roads and lay metrobus routes.
