Kazakhstan will hold a referendum soon, in which citizens will decide on the construction of a nuclear power plant. President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev raised this issue at the forum of maslikhat deputies, the press office of the President of Kazakhstan reports.
The President of the Republic noted that the referendum is an important milestone for the country, reflecting the «listening state» concept and symbolising the significant changes that have taken place in recent years.
«Regardless of the referendum results, it will be a momentous event,» Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev emphasised.
The President said Kazakhstan needs to use its competitive advantages to keep up with global progress. If the decision is positive, it will be the most ambitious project in the history of independent Kazakhstan, ensuring energy sovereignty, pushing the economy, science and education forward and establishing an engineering class.
