Uzbekistan and World Bank implement projects worth $12 billion

The President of Uzbekistan noted that the World Bank is providing fruitful support for ongoing reforms in the Republic.

On September 30, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with World Bank Vice President for the Europe and Central Asia Region Antonella Bassani. They discussed the progress of the implementation of joint projects with a total value of $12 billion, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

The interlocutors discussed the prospects for expanding cooperation with the World Bank Group and the possible support for the programme of reforms implemented by Uzbekistan together with this international financial institution.

Mirziyoyev and Bassani highlighted the success of bilateral cooperation, noting that the portfolio of joint projects has exceeded $12 billion in recent years. The opening of the World Bank Regional Office in Tashkent in July this year is of particular importance.

The fight against poverty, transformation of state-owned enterprises and financial institutions, decarbonisation and facilitation of Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) were identified as priority areas for further partnerships.

Particular attention was paid to urban development projects, integrated development of the regions, modernisation of energy and irrigation infrastructures and support for the private sector.
