President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon signed the Decree on the establishment of the Housing and Utilities Committee under the Government of Tajikistan. The newly established committee will be headed by Usmon Davlatzoda, who held the position of Director of the Housing and Utilities State Unitary Enterprise (SUE), ASIA Plus reports.
The Housing and Utilities Committee will be the central executive body of state power that will be responsible for implementing the state policy in the housing and utilities sector.
The Committee will comprise the Housing and Utilities State Unitary Enterprise, the Capital Construction and Repairs State Unitary Enterprise and the Centre for Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Projects.
The Committee is tasked to solve many problems in the housing and utilities sector. One of the main problems is the lack of centralised water systems in several regions. Over 25% of drinking water networks have been operated for many years and out of order.
A preliminary communal infrastructure to allot land plots for housing construction, including water, electricity, sewerage and road networks needs to be set up. The lack of water meters is the major cause of significant losses in drinking water systems in the Republic.
