Tajikistan-Pakistan trade has grown by 62%

The Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan called on his Pakistani counterparts to increase investment in key sectors of Tajikistan’s economy.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan Zavki Zavkizoda held official talks with Minister for Commerce of Pakistan Jam Kamal Khan in the framework of the 23rd Meeting of Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO). They noted that annual trade between the two countries has increased by 62%, the press office of the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Tajikistan reported.

The parties emphasised the stable development of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and Pakistan. This year, trade between the two countries has reached $53 million.

Zavki Zavkizoda called on the authorities of Pakistan to invest more actively in key sectors of Tajikistan’s economy. Particular emphasis was placed on the construction and reconstruction of hydropower plants. He noted as prospective the launch of joint ventures, particularly in the textile industry. 

The talks focused on the opportunities to use the transit routes and ports in Pakistan and improve sugar imports.
