President of Tajikistan reviews country’s progress for 33 years of independence

The President said Tajikistan had to face serious challenges during this period.

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon delivered a congratulatory speech on National Independence Day in Khujand. The President noted that the Republic has gone through many difficulties, including political, economic and social problems, since gaining independence 33 years ago, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported.

Independence enabled Tajikistan to gain recognition from the world community as a democratic, jural and secular state and become a member of authoritative international organisations, Emomali Rahmon emphasised.

The President informed that manufacturing output was seen growing in all the economic and social sectors of the country. For example, manufacturing output in Sughd Region exceeded 35 billion somoni in 2023, which is 72 times more than in 2000. Industrial output rose by 15 times during this period.

Emomali Rahmon emphasised that the large-scale projects have been implemented during the years of independence, including the South-North and Guliston-Asht high-voltage power lines and road reconstruction. These projects connected the region with the centre and south of the country at any time of the year and provided access to electricity on a continuous basis.

Over 700 industrial enterprises and production departments are planned to be built in Sughd Region, which will create over 14,000 new jobs. 140 facilities are to be put into operation in 2024. 106 new production facilities have begun working in the first seven months of the year.
