A protocol for commencement on the small nuclear power plant (SNPP) project was signed in Uzbekistan, which marks the transition to the active preparatory phase. The necessary design and licensing documentation will be developed in the framework of the project, the press office of Uzatom reported.
The document was signed in the presence of Director of the Atomic Energy Agency under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan Azim Akhmedkhajaev and Deputy Director General of Rosatom Nikolay Spassky.
Director of the Nuclear Power Plant Construction Directorate under the Uzatom Agency Otabek Amanov reported that the signing of the protocol will allow proceeding directly to work on the construction site, as the parties have fulfilled the primary conditions of their regulatory and financial obligations. Rosatom proceeds to create documentation to obtain a license for the placement of the SNPP and conduct a survey.
Preliminary work on the SNPP project began in the summer of 2024. In June, the construction task force conducted the first meeting on the site of the future power plant to set priority tasks. In late August, construction work on a shift camp for builders began, which was the first step towards the integrated development of the territory. It is planned to build cultural, educational and health facilities and attract residents and industrial companies to live and work in the region.
