Minister of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan Erbol Myrzabosynov proposed intensifying the use of the Olympic sports venues in the two countries to prepare athletes for the upcoming competitions at a meeting with Minister of Sports of Russia Mikhail Degtyarev, which took place in Astana as part of the World Nomad Games, the press office of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan reported.
Over the past two years, Kazakh athletes have held over 40 training sessions in Russia, which has strengthened significantly relations between Kazakhstan and Russia in the sports sector. Myrzabosynov emphasised the need to continue this practice and more effectively use the sports facilities in the two countries.
The Minister noted the high level of Kazakhstan-Russia partnerships, particularly in organising major international sporting events, such as the BRICS Games and the Children of Asia International Sports Games.
Myrzabosynov noted that 197 Russian athletes are performing at the 5th World Nomad Games, which started in the capital of Kazakhstan on Sunday. The Games aim to promote such national sports, as mas-wrestling of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) and the Tatar wrestling koresh.
Almost 2,500 athletes from over 90 countries are performing at the 5th World Nomad Games. The Games feature 21 sports, and 97 sets of medals will be awarded. The total prize fund is 250 million tenge (about $324,000). The Closing Ceremony of the Games is scheduled for September 13.
