A meeting of the Joint Commission chaired by the Prime Ministers of Russia and Uzbekistan took place in Tashkent. Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov expressed readiness to actively collaborate with Russia, while RF Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin put forward new promising ideas in the manufacturing and transport sectors, the press office of the RF Government reported.
The parties noted a significant growth in bilateral trade: over the past 7 years, this indicator has grown 2.5 times and exceeded the $10 million mark in 2023. Today, over 3,000 joint ventures operate in Uzbekistan, and the portfolio of joint projects exceeds $60 billion. The parties are set to increase bilateral trade to $30 billion in the future.
Last year saw a surge in tourist arrivals from Russia to Uzbekistan: over 700,000 Russian tourists visited the Republic, eventually breaking a multi-year record. Every 10th tourist in Uzbekistan came from Russia.
Abdulla Aripov said the trade structure has shifted towards high-value products. He noted that Uzbekistan is seeking to create new transnational transport corridors, which would give the two countries access to new markets. Mikhail Mishustin supported this plan, noting that Russia is ready to develop transport corridors as well.
Mikhail Mishustin suggested launching joint production of polymers and civilian UAVs and ramping up cooperation in railway engineering.
