Asian Development Bank allocates $71 million grant to Tajikistan

The grant will be used to replace generation unit 4 at the Golovnaya hydropower plant and modernise the business sector.

Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank signed 2 grant agreements worth $71 million. About $50 million will be earmarked to implement the programme aimed at improving the business environment impacted by climate change, the press office of the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan reported.

Minister of Finance of Tajikistan Faiziddin Kahhorzoda and ADB Country Director for Tajikistan Shanny Campbell attended the signing ceremony.

The grant programme envisages boosting goods exports, digitalise services, modernise infrastructure management and help small and medium-sized businesses adapt to climate change.

The $21 million grant will be used to modernise the Golovnaya hydropower plant (HPP). The project envisages the replacement of generation unit 4 that is out of operation since 2019, which will increase the installed generation capacity from 240 to 274 megawatts by 2026.
