Climate Council under President set up in Uzbekistan

It will monitor the fulfilment of obligations under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the Decree on the establishment the Climate Council that will be the supreme body for consultation on climate change adaptation, the press office of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic reported.

The National Centre for Green Transformation and Climate Change Adaptation will be renamed into the National Centre for Climate Change, or the Climate Centre.

The Centre is tasked to monitor the fulfilment of obligations under the international climate agreements, including the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Paris Agreement.

As part of these initiatives, it was announced that a Climate Science Forum will be set up at the Central Asian University for the Study of the Environment and Climate Change. Its main task will be to support climate studies and enhance the research and educational potential of the University.
