On July 18, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres sent a message to President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, thanking him for the warm welcome during his visit to Ashgabat, Turkmenistan: Golden Age eNewspaper reports.
Noting that Turkmenistan’s commitment to neutrality is of deep importance for strengthening close cooperation with the UN, Guterres commended the personal involvement and leadership of the President of Turkmenistan in promoting the SDGs, addressing climate change and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The UN Secretary-General highly evaluated the establishment of the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia in Turkmenistan. This action confirms the country’s active position in promoting regional stability, as well as in fostering dialogue and cooperation in Central Asia, he said.
Antonio Guterres emphasised that he greatly values partnerships with Turkmenistan and hopes that it will further develop effectively.
As was reported, the UN Secretary-General visited Turkmenistan on July 5-6. He met with the leaders of the country and took part in the opening ceremony of the UN Central Office in Ashgabat.
