Minister of Digital Development, Innovation and Aerospace Industry of Kazakhstan Zhaslan Madiev told in an interview with LS that the moon base project will enter the active implementation phase in 2030. A memorandum with the Chinese side was signed.
«The active project phase, including construction work, is expected to be implemented from 2030 to 2035. The base will be located on the Moon or in orbit,» Madiev clarified.
It is too early to talk about specific ownership interests, since the establishment a joint venture has not yet been considered, the Minister noted. The format of future research that will be the aim of the project is currently under discussion — either continual human presence or the use of robots.
The memorandum is a non-binding document, and agreements with clearer roles and responsibilities will be required in the future. The next steps include mutual consultation with Chinese counterparts on the development of a project roadmap and the necessary regulatory and legislative changes.
