President of Kyrgyzstan comes up with idea of using cemeteries

The President of Kyrgyzstan said many citizens demonstrate wasteful behaviour when building huge monuments in cemeteries.

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of land resources in the Republic and put forward the idea of the need to revise the use of spaces occupied by cemeteries, AKIpress reported.

The President visited several cemeteries during his working visit to Issyk-Kul Region, where he expressed concern that these territories had been neglected for 200-300 years.

Cemeteries are abandoned because they lose significance for visiting after monuments are installed, Japarov said.

He expressed indignation at the construction of kumbez in cemeteries, which can exceed the size of two-storey houses. Japarov said these monuments take up valuable space bringing no benefit. Noting the acute shortage of agricultural land and areas suitable for farming in small settlements, the President highlighted the need to solve this problem in the near future.

Sadyr Japarov called for «vertical» development of the regional centres and rural settlements. He said five-storey houses should be built to conserve land resources.
