Speaking at the SCO Plus meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit in Astana, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the need to develop a new agenda for the Organisation, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.
Mirziyoyev expressed belief that the SCO’s operational efficiency needs to be enhanced. The President proposed revising the concept of security within the SCO, given environmental challenges, water and food scarcity and cybersecurity. Mirziyoyev put forward the idea of holding an annual SCO Plus Security Dialogue involving the leaders of all Member States.
In his speech, President of Uzbekistan underscored the importance of «resetting» trade and economic cooperation within the SCO, seeking to boost intersectoral partnerships. The issue of establishing the SCO Fund and Development Bank remained outstanding.
The President noted that the SCO leaders agreed to take comprehensive measures to simplify trade procedures, promote E-commerce and encourage technological cooperation.
He also proposed holding the SCO International Industrial Exhibition (SCO Expo) annually to build a platform for business dialogue involving all partners.
