China-Uzbekistan trade rises to $14 billion

It was noted during talks between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Chairman of the People’s Republic of China that bilateral trade is to rise to $20 billion.

On July 3, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President of China Xi Jinping held a meeting in Astana. The interlocutors discussed the outcomes of cooperation. In 2023, bilateral trade set a record, reaching $14 billion, the press office of the President of Uzbekistan reported.

Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to Jinping for supporting reforms in Uzbekistan and noted that Uzbekistan-China relations have made significant progress. The two countries are seeking to increase bilateral trade to $20 billion, while the investment portfolio has exceeded $50 billion.

This year, Uzbekistan has spent over $3 billion in Chinese investment on local projects. Over 500 new joint ventures were set up.

Mirziyoyev and Xi Jinping discussed accelerating the implementation of the strategic programmes in infrastructure, industry, agriculture and green energy.

The President of Uzbekistan emphasised that the President of the People’s Republic of China supports Uzbekistan in fighting poverty. The Uzbek leader proposed implementing a long-term experience exchange programme in this sphere.
