Expert Aronsky comments on “green” growth in Turkmenistan

The Startup Ecosystem programme continues successfully throughout the country.

The public and private sectors of Turkmenistan’s economy are successfully adopting innovation. Chairman of the Union of Economists of Turkmenistan Yuri Aronsky commented on the implementation of eco-projects in the country in an interview with CentralAsia.news.

In particular, the state-owned fuel and energy enterprises are deploying the latest technologies. For example, one of the successful innovative projects implemented in Turkmenistan is the gas chemical plant. It is the first plant in the world to convert natural gas into gasoline on an industrial scale. This unique high-tech enterprise ‘distils’ natural gas into liquid fuel in large volumes.

The Startup Ecosystem programme was launched in the private sector of Turkmenistan’s economy under the overall coordination of the Union of Economists of Turkmenistan Public Association and continues successfully since 2020. The project is aimed at finding and developing new ideas for the national economy and enhancing the potential of the domestic innovation market through interaction with business companies so that they will progress in the future. As a result, over 400 young people aged 18 to 35 years have acquired entrepreneurial knowledge and skills, learned how to create innovative business projects and attract investment and developed their start-up projects.

Turkmenistan maintains state control to coordinate efforts towards transitioning to a green economy, developing energy efficiency programmes, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, curbing pollution and waste generation and creating and restoring ecosystems. The authorities organise and hold international meetings and forums on a regular basis to evaluate climate change actions and exchange experiences and achievements in the green economy.

On June 3, the Turkmen delegation took part in the Conference on Climate Change, which took place in the German city of Bonn. The Turkmen side announced the initiative to establish a Regional Centre for Climate Technologies under the auspices of the UN in Ashgabat. The Turkmen participants emphasised the importance and urgency of this initiative.
