The working group on Uzbekistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) held its eighth meeting in Geneva. The Uzbek delegation consisted of Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodayev, the deputy ministers of economy and agriculture and the Special Representative of the President of Uzbekistan on WTO issues, the press office of the World Trade Organization reported.
The participants discussed the current state of Uzbekistan’s foreign trade.
They dwelt on the reforms implemented in the Republic in preparation for accession to the WTO. Chairman of the working group and Ambassador of South Korea Yoon Sung-duk noted that WTO accession negotiations have been speeded up, which testifies to the fruitful work of all the parties.
Khodaev emphasised that the Government of Uzbekistan is actively working towards accession to the WTO. It is adapting the legal framework to the rules of the World Trade Organization and making amendments to the laws on fees, intellectual property rights, sanitary and phytosanitary inspections and customs activities.
