Rahmon and UN Secretary-General discuss current state and prospects of cooperation

They discussed key aspects and prospects of bilateral cooperation and the agenda of the Water Conference.

On March 21, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the sidelines of the United Nations 2023 Water Conference in New York. The interlocutors discussed key aspects of bilateral cooperation and the agenda of the Water Conference, the press office of the President of Tajikistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The Tajik side expressed its readiness to step up joint efforts with the United Nations and UN Member States to achieve the SDGs, respond to modern threats and dangers and promote the supreme human values.

The interlocutors focused on cooperation on water issues, climate change and its impact on water resources, disaster management, renewable energy capacity building and the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution on the protection of glaciers at the fifth initiative of Tajikistan.

They exchanged views on resilient post-pandemic recovery, economic and financial crises and challenges and threats of terrorism and extremism.

Discussing the political situation in Afghanistan, they noted that Tajikistan supports humanitarian aid deliveries to the Afghan people. For this purpose, the Republic has provided its logistics capacities.
