Voting instead of relatives reported in Kazakhstan

Several cases when election ballots were issued to voters instead of their relatives in the elections that took place in Kazakhstan on Sunday, March 19 were reported, RIA Novosti reported.

Head of the coordination and control department of the Service for Protection of Public Interests of the Prosecutor General’s Office of the Republic Azamat Sargazin informed that 9 cases when citizens voted instead of their relatives in the parliamentary and local elections were revealed. These violations were found in Alma-Ata, Zhetysu, North Kazakhstan and Zhambyl Regions. The representative of the Prosecutor General’s Office said an issuance of election ballots to voters instead of other people violates the requirement of equal suffrage.

As was reported, the members of the election commission, who had issued election ballots to voters instead of their relatives in violation of the law, were suspended immediately. They may be brought to administrative responsibility.
