Kazakhstan to build large-scale copper cathode production plant

The Government discussed in detail the implementation of the project and the development opportunities of Kazakhstan’s mining and metallurgical sector.

On March 9, Chairman of the Government of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov held a meeting on the development opportunities of Kazakhstan’s mining and metallurgical sector. In particular, the participants considered building a large-scale copper cathode production plant in East Kazakhstan Region, the press office of the Prime Minister reported to CentralAsia.news.

The launch of a copper smelting plant with a capacity of 300,000 tonnes of copper cathode per year will allow attracting additional foreign investment and advanced technologies to the Republic and create more than 1,000 permanent jobs. The project is expected to make a huge contribution to increase Kazakhstan’s exports.

The participants discussed the issues related to taxation, electricity supply, protection of investors’ rights, attraction of foreign nationals to work, compliance with environmental requirements and national laws.

Based on the discussion, Smailov instructed the government agencies to facilitate cooperation with investors for the implementation of the project.
