Saudi company to build two “green” power plants in Uzbekistan

More than $7.5 billion have been invested in the energy project.

Saudi Arabia’s ACWA Power and the Government of Uzbekistan have agreed that the Saudi company will build two «green» power plants in Tashkent and Samarkand Regions, the press office of the Government of Uzbekistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

About $7.5 billion have been invested in the energy project. The Saudi company, JSC National Power Grid of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan signed the agreement.

Together with the power plants, ACWA Power will build three energy storage systems with a combined capacity of 1,200 MW in Bukhara, Tashkent and Samarkand Regions.

The authorities of Uzbekistan plan to generate 35% of all electricity from renewable energy sources by 2030. The facilities with a combined capacity of 15,000 MW — the solar plants with a total capacity of 10,000 MW and the wind plants with a total capacity of 5,000 MW will be put into operation in the Republic.
