Uzbekistan and Israel step up trade and economic cooperation

The Deputy Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade and the Ambassador of Israel to Uzbekistan held a meeting in Tashkent.

On March 3, Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan Oybek Khamraev met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the State of Israel to Uzbekistan Zehavit Ben-Hillel, the press office of the Ministry reported.

The talks focused on the prospects for building up trade, economic and investment cooperation, as well as stepping up contacts in other areas.

The interlocutors noted that bilateral commodity turnover doubled last year, and the number of the enterprises with the share of Israeli capital increased by 3.5 times. Jointly with the Israeli partners, a knitwear factory was put into operation in Samarkand Region, and the enterprises that produce warehouse, archival and commercial racks and medical equipment in Tashkent Region.

The interlocutors agreed to set up a working group to increase trade and economic indicators.

The promising areas to build up partnerships include the textile, chemical, pharmaceutical and electrical industries, food production, agriculture and water management, the banking and financial sector, tourism, construction and healthcare.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan and the Israel’s Agency for International Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will contribute to strengthening Uzbekistan-Israel relations in the trade and economic sector.
