Kazakhstan to tighten security measures at schools

The meeting chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kulginov focused on ensuring security in educational institutions.

On February 17, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Altai Kulginov held a meeting in Astana to discuss the measures being taken to ensure security in educational institutions, the press office of the Prime Minister of the Republic reported.

First Deputy Minister of Education Sholpan Karinova reported on the measures being taken to ensure security in schools. Last year, the country adopted the Regulations on the protection of educational facilities against terrorist attacks. A list of items and substances that are banned on the territory of educational institutions was compiled.

The inspections revealed the problems with video surveillance systems in schools in Almaty, Kostanay and Turkestan Regions and the cities of Abay, Zhetysu and Ulytau. A number of schools in North Kazakhstan, Kostanay and Turkestan Regions have no security systems.

The Ministry of Education is developing measures to prevent suicide among teenagers and violence against children and protect the rights of children.

Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Igor Lepekha reported on the work being done by the bodies of internal affairs to ensure security in educational institutions.

The government officials were instructed to install the panic buttons, turnstiles and video surveillance systems connected to the control centres of the bodies of internal affairs bodies at all educational institutions.
