Turkmenistan to do a lot of work on joining World Trade Organization

The statement was made by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Vepa Hajiyev.

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Vepa Hajiyev chaired a meeting of the government commission for the study of issues related to Turkmenistan’s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). He stressed that a lot of work to be done in the corresponding direction this year. It was reported to CentralAsia.news by the press office of the diplomatic department.

Officials will develop a memorandum on the foreign trade regime of the Central Asian state. The submission of the document is one of the conditions for Turkmenistan to join the World Trade Organization. In addition, an agency which will coordinate issues regarding the country’s membership in the WTO will be created under one of the ministries of the country.

Hajiyev recalled that Turkmenistan received the status of an observer in July 2020 and the status of an active observer in the organization in February last year. According to him, the cooperation between Turkmenistan and the World Trade Organization demonstrates active dynamics.

During the meeting, its participants also discussed issues of expanding the partnership between the state and the WTO Secretariat.
