The successful Days of Iranian Culture in Turkmenistan, as well as the Specialized Economic Exhibition of Iran, clearly demonstrated the level of humanitarian and business relations between the two friendly countries. Amid these events, which made the states even closer, the regional columnist of CentralAsia.news Vadim Shagiahmedov drew a line of succession from historical factors to modern development.
History of humanitarian exchange
The Islamic Republic of Iran is the most ancient neighboring country of Turkmenistan. The peoples of the two countries are bound by thousand-year good neighborly relations. During these years there was a process of deep interpenetration of cultures, language and traditions.
At the same time, it is well known that ancient Persian literature had a huge impact on the development of literature of a number of developing peoples. Many scientific folios were written in ancient Farsi. In addition, in the Middle Ages, the education of a noble man required knowledge of this script. Saadi, Rudaki, Fizuli, Ferdowsi, Omar Khayyam created their immortal works and treatises in this language.
Turkmen poet Magtymguly Fragi, who got acquainted with the masterpieces of world literature in Farsi, is also one of such great persons. Some works by Fragi pay attention to Iranian history, outstanding personalities of the neighboring people and its rulers.
The very fact that Magtymguly Fragi and his father Dovletmammed Azadi were buried in Aktokay village, Gulistan province, Iran confirms the absence of conditional boundaries and the close intersection of the destinies of the two peoples. And today, centuries later, the flow of pilgrims to the mausoleums of great historical figures, including Turkmen writers, scientists, representatives of the creative intelligentsia, is not stopping.
And these pilgrims always emphasize that the outstanding son of the Turkmen people, through the prism of centuries, as a seer, recites his immortal works, glorifying the ideals of peace, friendship and good neighborliness.
Modern economic drive
The official visit of the President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov to the Islamic Republic of Iran in June 2022 played an important role in expanding relations of the states in trade and economy. As a result of the talks held during the visit, an extensive package of bilateral agreements was adopted.
These are the Memorandum of Understanding on the development of transport and transit cooperation between the government of Turkmenistan and the government of Iran; Memorandum on the establishment of a joint investment committee; Program on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation; Memorandum on trade, economic, scientific, technical and cultural cooperation between the regions of Turkmenistan and a number of Iranian provinces. At present, the agreements are being successfully implemented thanks to joint efforts.
In the transport and logistics sector, a number of projects are carried out similarly. These are agreements: on the establishment of an international transport and transit corridor between the governments of Iran, the Sultanate of Oman, the State of Qatar, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan; on the implementation of the railway freight corridor Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran between the railway departments of the countries. For many years, a large volume of Turkmen natural gas has been supplied to Iran.
Thus, the relations between the two states and peoples, originating in the mists of time, are dynamically and purposefully taken to a new level.
