Sadyr Japarov informed about Kumtor’s plans for coming years

As was reported, Kumtor produced 17.3 tonnes of gold in 2022.

On February 7, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov held a working meeting on the production activities of Kumtor Gold Company CJSC in 2022 and its plans for the near future, the press office of the President of Kyrgyzstan reports.

Director of Kumtor Almaz Baryktabasov reported that Kumtor produced 17.3 tonnes of gold in 2022.

He also informed about the plans to reprocess mine waste in a tailings dump to liberate gold using modern technologies. “Starting from 2026, gold will be recovered by reprocessing mine tailings, and it is planned to recover about 4.7 tonnes of the precious metal from the waste materials annually,” he said.

Mine tailings are to be fully reprocessed by 2040. The total cost of gold, which will be recovered from mine tailings, is estimated at about $3.5 billion.

It is expected that tailings will be fully reprocessed in this way into a harmless semi-dry mixture and provide economic benefits.

Commenting on the report, Japarov emphasised that effective and efficient management is required from the top managers of the company.
