Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan calls digital sovereignty major sign of independence

Akylbek Japarov raised this issue at the Digital Almaty 2023 Forum in Kazakhstan.

Chairman of the Government of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov took part in the Digital Almaty 2023 Forum: Digital Partnership in a New Reality in Kazakhstan. He noted that digital sovereignty has great significance in the 21st century, the press office of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan reported to CentralAsia.news.

Noting that sovereignty in virtual space is the main sign of independence in the modern world, Japarov said it has become more difficult for the authorities to maintain digital independence against the backdrop of rapid technological change.

The Prime Minister said Kyrgyzstan ranks third among the countries that have the cheapest internet in the world.  He informed that the Government of Kyrgyzstan is currently developing the Digital Code that has no analogues in the world.

In early 2022, Kyrgyzstan adopted the law that regulates relations in cryptocurrency circulation. Kyrgyzstan is the only country in the region that identifies voters using biometric data such as fingerprints and facial geometry.
