Environmental aspects of Uzbekistan-Korea cooperation discussed in Tashkent

A delegation of the Ministry of Environment of Korea arrived in Tashkent to discuss further joint actions to fight climate change.

The Korean delegation headed by Vice Minister of Environment of the Republic of Korea Yoo Jae-chul held a meeting at the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry in Tashkent. It focused on the aspects of environmental cooperation, the press office of the Ministry reported.

The main issues under discussion included the implementation of the projects of sanitary landfills and transfer stations in Jizzakh Region and electricity generation from landfill gas from the Akhangaran and Maidontol landfills.

The parties exchanged views on partnerships in environmental rehabilitation of Aral Region of Uzbekistan. These projects are being implemented jointly with the Korea International Cooperation Agency and the Global Green Growth Institute. The projects aimed at mitigating the impacts of the Aral Sea crisis envisage building climate resilient agriculture in the Republic of Karakalpakstan to improve food security of the region and reduce disaster risk.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to conduct meetings on a regular basis and build up cooperation on the sustainable use of natural resources and climate change.
