OIC supports Tajikistan for UNSC non-permanent membership

The United Nations Headquarters noted the appropriateness of the candidature of the Republic of Tajikistan.

A meeting of the Member States of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation took place in New York. The agenda of the event partly focused on the candidature of the Republic of Tajikistan for the non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan reported to CentralAsia.news.

The OIC Member States unanimously supported the candidature of the Republic of Tajikistan for the UNSC non-permanent membership for 2028-2029. The Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation noted the importance of making an appropriate decision in March last year.

Permanent Representative of Tajikistan to the United Nations Jonibek Hikmat emphasised that the Republic has a unique experience that could be of great use to the UN Security Council, noting that the time has come for Tajikistan’s membership of this body.

The UN Security Council has the primary responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security. It is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations.
